Today is Trains – day .
Rail transportation in the United States consists primarily of freight shipments, while passenger service, once a large and vital part of the nation’s passenger transportation network, plays a limited role as compared to transportation patterns in many other countries.1950s and 1960s: Drastic decline in passenger travel in the United States, due to automobiles and also airplanes, as first jetliners take to the air. Railroads respond through mergers and attempts to shed unprofitable trains and rail routes.
My town has raised train tracks that run around town. As the trains go bye you can here the noise of the fast moving trains. I’am always wondering whats in the containers and where will there destination be. At one time Melville had a depot and passengers got on and off. Now all we have are the long line of train moving on the tracks.
