Monday Recipe * Shrimp Jambalaya

Sunset Jam is a mixture of music and arts. But Jambalaya can be a mixture of anything-  This family recipe is made with Shrimp but can be made with any type of meat or seafood.

Shrimp Jambalaya 

  • 1 lb shrimp ( small is great /chop large ones)
  • 11/2 C Cooked rice
  • 2 T tomato paste
  • 1 t Sugar
  • 2 C water
  • 1/2 C oil
  • 4 cloves minced garlic
  • 1/2 C  Onion,Celery,bell pepper (chopped)
  • 1/2 t cornstarch
  • Salt & pepper to taste

In a large pot wilt vegetables in oil. Add tomato past and Cook about 15 minutes. Add 1/2 C water-and sugar -Cook another 40 minutes. Add shrimp -cook about 20 minutes – add  the corn starch to the left over water and Cook a few minutes. Mix in the cooked Rice and garnish with parsley.   Lisa

Sunset ,La.   History : 

As many towns started in Southern Louisiana, Sunset began as a railroad town and was incorporated in 1904, with the first village meeting held on December 7 of that same year. Victor Hugo Sibille was the first mayor. It served for a brief time as the “Sweet Potato Capital of the Nation” at the turn of the 20th century.[7] Oddly enough, The Bank of Sunset was one of the very few that did not close throughout the Great Depression of 1929

Sunset Jam

– happen the 2nd Saturday of the month. From 9 am until 2 pm  It’s a Jambalaya of Art and Music.  Come and visit if you are in the area. Its a great mixture of local culture ,historic building and good food all among  the old  trees on Nap alone Ave. Lisa
