Saturday Brunch Menu

Hope this post finds you all happy and healthy. As we have finished another week of mandatory stay at home. Which for me is not a big deal since I enjoy staying at home. But now I have company with my son home from college and my hubby working from home. So today menu is an easy version of this British classic so enjoy!

American Toad in a Hole :

  • 1 slice of bread
  • 1 teaspoon butter
  • 1 large egg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cut a 3-in. hole in the middle of the bread and discard. In a small skillet, melt the butter; place the bread in the skillet.
  • Place egg in the hole. Cook for about 2 minutes over medium heat until the bread is lightly browned. Turn and cook the other side until egg yolk is almost set. Season with salt and pepper.

Great Britain’s Toad in a whole :

Origins. Batter puddings became popular in the early 18th century. … Dishes like toad in the hole appeared in print as early as 1762, where it was described as a ‘vulgar’ name for a ‘small piece of beef baked in a large pudding’. Toad in the hole was originally created as a way to stretch out meat in poor households.

  1. I do not like sausages in batter type toad in the hole, but I do like the look of the American egg version 🙂
I like being home so this isolation is okay with me – the fear is what I might catch if I leave home. Unfortunately I’ve got to go out to get my anxiety medication – oh the irony!
