How to Light BBQ Grill

Its another Hot day in South Louisiana. The temperature will be with humidity over 100. So to keep the house Cool we are Cooking Outside.

Lighting BBQ Charcoal Grill :

  • Fuel and Tools
  • Kingsford® Original Charcoal Briquets
  • Kingsford® Charcoal Lighter Fluid
  • Charcoal Grill
  • Tongs or a Long-Handled Metal Spatula
  • Matches or Lighter

Pile the charcoal into a neat mound or pyramid to increase contact and help the fire grow faster. Use less charcoal for small cooks and more for large cooks.

HOW TO ADD THE LIGHTER FLUID

  • Carefully squirt the lighter fluid on the top and sides of the charcoal mound. Usually you need about a 10-second squirt for a chimney’s worth of charcoal to get proper coverage. To make sure you’re using the right amount, follow your lighter fluid’s directions.
  • Light immediately after applying the fluid. Never squirt lighter fluid onto flaming or hot coals.

Safety Tips :

  • ‘For best results, let the fluid soak into the charcoal for around 30 seconds before lighting. This will avoid the fluid burning straight off the coals and achieve a promising light.
  • It’s really important to not go overboard with lighter fluid as it could result in an uncontrollable fire as well as leave your food with an unpleasant petroleum, chemical-like taste. 
  • ‘Biofuels are a clever natural lighter fluid made from sugarcane or corn that can be used as an alternative to traditional lighter fluid and will reduce that chemical taste in food
