Louisiana Sunflower Trail and Festival

The Red River runs south from Oklahoma to eventually join the mighty Mississippi River. Along the way, up in the northwestern corner of Louisiana, it divides Caddo and Bossier Parishes. Caddo Parish’s largest city is Shreveport, but that historic city is located in the southernmost part of the parish. The majority of Caddo’s land and rich history stretches along Louisiana Highway 3049 and includes the towns of Dixie, Belcher, Gilliam, Hosston, Mira and Ida.

The Red River Crossroads Historical and Cultural Association was founded in 1994 to celebrate and preserve the history of the towns of northern Caddo Parish and historic locations along LA Hwy 3049. Our non-profit 501 (c) (3) status was granted that same year.

The Red River Crossroads Historical Association Museum was developed in 1998 and can be found inside the Gilliam Branch of the Shreve Memorial Library. The Historical Association cooperated with the Shreve Memorial Library System to finance the renovation of one of the brick buildings in downtown Gilliam, La in order to house both the library and museum.

Trail Route

Find LA Hwy 3049

From downtown Shreveport, drive north on Clyde Fant Memorial Parkway. Just north of the casios, Clyde Fant veres to the left and changes name to Grimmett Drive. From Grimmett Drive turn right onto LA Hwy 3049 (Dixie Shreveport Road).

Enjoy the Trail

Turn right at Old Dixie Gin and Sentell Road and drive the loop around the levee. Sentell Road circles back to Highway 3049 at Cornerstone Baptist Church, just north of Dixie. This drive features several sunflower varieties, and a field of wildflowers. Sunflowers along the Trail are expected to be in full bloom.
