Craft Time ; Crochet Granny Squares for a Cause

If you read my blog : you know that I love books and crafts. I am sharing both on my Thursday page. Today I am highlighting a great Cause and Craft together :

Love Squared Charity

Love-Squared is in need of knitters and crochets to make squares to become patchwork afghans for our homeless children.

We need 8 inch squares made from any color and pattern. Since these squares are for a child’s afghan, think soft, cuddly, and easily washable. Please do not use perfumes, dryer sheets, scented additions when mailing squares. It gets to be quite overpowering during shipping.

This is a great stash buster project and a great way to practice a new stitch or learn to knit! 8 inches, That’s all it takes

I found this great organization when we did a school drive in Michigan . And shared it with our local Women’s club here. Lisa

Basic Granny Square :

Construction Method

The basic granny square motif is worked from the center out in joined rounds. Each round of the granny square is made from a repeating pattern of granny clusters and chains.

The granny square is made from basic crochet stitches. Here are the abbreviations used in this pattern

How to make a Blanket:

Joining with single crochet (US)

Joining with single crochet stitches is probably the easiest way to connect squares together. The idea is that you just put two grannies facing with the wrong sides and start crocheting through both layers on the sides of the squares with single crochet. It’s fast, easy and it also gives extra texture to the whole crocheted piece

Easy Crochet Granny Square Patterns:

Learning how to crochet a granny square is so crucial as it’s a fundament basic crochet stitch. It’s simple and fun, and quick too. Not to mention a granny square pattern can be worked on, on the go and then seamed together into whatever crochet project you’re working on.

The granny square is one of the most easy and versatile crochet patterns around. It can be used to make crochet blankets, scarves, bags, tops, cardigans and a myriad of easy crochet patterns. You can add color and style to you wardrobe and home alike when you learn to crochet a granny square.

You’ll see from this book that there are a lot of options and variations to the original, traditional crochet design. You can use any type of yarn or size of crochet hook – anything goes. They may look complicated but once you learn the process, you’ll be able to do it in your sleep.
