In this tribute to today’s vibrant quilting community, prize-winning quilter and teacher Thomas Knauer showcases a stunning collection of quilts from a wide range of contemporary makers, accompanied by their testimonials about what inspires and imbues their craft with meaning. From temperance quilts to the AIDS quilt, there’s a rich history of individuals and communities using fabric and thread to connect with others and express themselves, both personally and politically. Why We Quilt blends bits of this history with the stories and work of today’s leading quilters, highlighting themes of tradition, community, consumerism, change, and creativity. With a unique die-cut cover and a richly layered design, this book will enthrall designers, quilters, and all types of handcraft enthusiasts.

Net Galley Review :
Any Quilting fan -put this on there Christmas list. I know why I quilt -my Grandmother did ,skipped Mom but when Gran know longer could quilt I picked up the torch so that it would not die out in our family. I still snuggle under blankets that my grandmother and family member have made over the years – but Why do You Quilt ? Read this book filled with great history and insights. Lisa
I’ll definitely take a look and see if this is available here in the UK. I like to sew and have recently been planning my first major project. I’m making a HUGE bedspread from denim. I’ve asked friends and family to save their old jeans, denim skirts and dresses for me and I’m now at the stage where I need to start cutting the denim into squares. It’s a bit daunting but why not start big?! 🙂

My first project was a quilt for my Grams nursing home bed. I used a quilt kit from a craft store. Good luck with your project- go big and have fun.
