Deer Chili & Corn Bread

Thursday Recipe is a Deer Chile & Corn Bread ! Yes – I said deer. We are a family of hunters and always eat what we kill.

  • ! tablespoon of shortening
  • 1/2 C chopped onions
  • 1 Pound ground Deer/ Pork meat
  • 1 green pepper chopped
  • 1  101/2 oz can tomato soap
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 teaspoon chili blend
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • Salt/pepper to taste.
  • You can add beans but we are a Non bean family.

Melt shortening- add onions & cook till soften. Add meat & brown. Add rest of ingrediants and cook. Longer the better.  Lisa

  • No Deer use ground beef.

Southern Corn Bread

  • 1 C white cornmeal
  • 1/2 C flour
  • 11/2 Teaspoon salt
  • ! teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 C milk
  • 1/2 C boiling water
  • 3 tablespoon corn oil
  • 1  Egg
  • 1 1/2 Teaspoon baking powder

Mix- flour,salt,sugar & corn oil. Stir in water. Mix add milk. Let stand till cool. Add eggs & baking powder. In a greased pan sponn in mixture- cook at 425 until brown .
