Sunday Bible Journal

This Sunday we are exploring

Deuteronomy :

When translated from the Greek Septuagint, the word “Deuteronomy” means “second law,” as in Moses’ retelling of God’s laws. The dominant theological theme in this book is the renewal of God’s covenant and Moses’ call to obedience, as evident in Deuteronomy

THOUGHTS :

Since there is but One God, and that God is Israel’s God, so Israel must love God unreservedly and entirely. The “heart” is mentioned as the seat of the understanding; the “soul” as the center of will and personality; the “might” as representing the outgoings and energies of all the vital powers.

JOSHUA

God and Israel The Book of Joshua takes forward Deuteronomy’s theme of Israel as a single people worshipping Yahweh in the land God has given them. Yahweh, as the main character in the book, takes the initiative in conquering the land, and Yahweh’s power wins the battles.

Joshua 4:24 (KJVA) That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the LORD your God for ever.

Thoughts :

Even almighty, and can do that which is marvellous and surprising, and above the power of nature to effect; things unsearchable and past finding out, which cannot be expressed, or conceived how and by what means they are brought about; this the very Heathens would own and acknowledge when they should see these stones, and be told the meaning of them, or should hear of this amazing event:
