May Graduation * Closing In

Happy Tuesday Everyone !

It’s been a busy week in the Jung household as we near Graduation in May . Today I sat down and ordered Cap & Gowns and graduation announcements for my son.Yes- even though he goes to an online school they have an actual graduation ceremonies for all of the graduates & parents. It will be a nice experience to remember for all.

It will be strange to  have him away from home since hes been schooled at home for the last seven years. Hes room will be empty ? No probably not.  One of the biggest complaints I received from others about our school  of choice was would he be ready to graduate & would he be ready for college. To answer that question – he was more than ready  had great grades & ACT scores  which  got  him many acceptance offers for colleges. He did decide to stay closer to home for college so I am sure he will be home lots .Graduation is May 21 !  So look forward to lots of graduation post coming up in the future.   Lisa pexels-photo-267885.jpeg

Tuesday Morning * Back to School

Tuesday Morning Post :

As most know we school at home through a virtual charter school. And when use the local public school schedule which means we just finished Spring Break. Lots of kids headed out to the beach or vacation  but it was a stay at home break for us. But learning did not stop. He’s got two big test coming up – a web design certification ( so he can help Mom) through school & he made it to the state high school rally round.  Testing his knowledge in Environmental Science. As with traditional home school we can study & work on projects doing break. But we are off doing the summer. But I have always encouraged some  type of learning program during the summer even when he attend public school .Kids forget so much doing the summer and it prepares them for the next year . In elementary its math & reading. In high school its those & summer computer camp.

I know some of my followers /friends are teacher  : Your thoughts on the option to school year round with semester break  ? Good or Bad ? If I had  traditional home-schooled  I would have done it. Lisa

So today where back to class : Eng 4 is calling us -another paper to write !  Lisa

** Its National Li bray Workers Day ! So stop bye & Say Thank You!!!

World Water Day * March 22nd

Nature for Water

This year’s theme – Nature for Water – explores how we can use nature to overcome the water challenges of the 21st water day

Water Day

World Water Day is a fairly new global observance. It was proposed in 1992 at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The holiday was adopted in 1993. On this day the public is encouraged to turn off their tap and not use them for the entire day in an effort to conserve water and appreciate this valuable natural resource.
As awareness for this day grows so too does the awareness of the general public about the safety and availability of clean water around the world. 71% of the Earth’s surface is covered by water and yet so many countries are unable to provide citizens with clean, safe drinking water.

Now let’s get involved in these great activities:

  • A Water Schedule: Keep track of how much you use each day. Challenge yourself and your family to use less by taking shorter showers, shutting water off when you brush.
  • A Conservation Checklist: Each time you use water:
  • Make a Reuse List: Think of ways you can reuse water such as bath water to water gardens or plants (they don’t mind a little soap) pledge to adopt some of them.
  • Be a Water Detective: Check leaks around your house and fix them asap
  • Start a Garden or Terrarium or Greenhouse (below): Learn about how important water is for life

Happy World Poetry Day

Held every year on 21 March, World Poetry Day celebrates one of humanity’s most treasured forms of cultural and linguistic expression and identity. Practiced throughout history – in every culture and on every continent – poetry speaks to our common humanity and our shared values, transforming the simplest of poems into a powerful catalyst for dialogue and peace.

World Poetry Day is the occasion to honour poets, revive oral traditions of poetry recitals, promote the reading, writing and teaching of poetry, foster

the convergence between poetry and other arts such as theatre, dance, music and painting, and raise the visibility of poetry in the media.  As poetry continues to bring people together across continents, all are invited to join in.

In English 4 my son just completed a Poetry lesson – here’s a sample of a rewrite of a Byron Poem –

When We Two Parted

By George Gordon Byron, 188-1824

The rewrite:

(Stanza 1)

As we parted

I to the trenches; you to your home,

We parted with broken hearts

Which will last for however long,

We parted with tears and anger,

I never saw your face in such light before

As we parted,

I could only think of you.

Enjoy your day & a Poem    Lisa

Happy PI Day!!!

Happy PI   Day !!!

Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th (3/14) around the world. Pi (Greek letter “π”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159.

Pi has been calculated to over one trillion digits beyond its decimal point. As an irrational and transcendental number, it will continue infinitely without repetition or pattern. While only a handful of digits are needed for typical calculations, Pi’s infinite nature makes it a fun challenge to memorize, and to computationally calculate more and more to more cool info

College Road Trip Time *

College Road Trip !!!

My son is a Senior this year in his on line public high school -chartered by our state. Because of this he took the ACT & got many offers from all over the country. If you have a student in an on line school or home school and they plan to go to College. Do your research on admittance. Many require ACT/SAT grades & transcripts. Plan ahead on options out  there but yes it is possible,  Many private school  ( Harvard)    encourage non traditional students this is a list I found but check your state :  10 best colleges for homeschoolers.

Tuesday Morning * School time

Tuesday morning & it’s time for school. As most followers know my son attends an online public school chartered by our state. We are finishing our 6th year & he will be graduating this year and on to college. This Saturday he was a member of the Schools high school rally team  at our local college. & the school sent out a local teacher to support  the team.

What is a   High School Rally ?   Students are  picked by there schools to test at district level and then state in all high school subjects . Not only do the student & school gets recognition but awards are given out to students at both district & state level.  My son took top honors in Environmental Science  ( hes college major) & is on to state -where scholarships are up for grabs in April.

It;s nice to see  his school beat out the brick & mortar schools both private & public. from the school district.  I had some grumbles from friends & family  when I enrolled him in this school but this show the quality of education he’s getting at home.Looking for a schooling option ? This may work for you- Lisa
