Krewe of Rex- started in 1872. Called the King of Carnival. And began the Mardi gras madness to get tourist after the Civil War to New Orleans.

Rex had the honor to choose the Colors- after Grand Duke Romanoff of Russia visit to New Orleans.

Purple for Justice

Green for Faith

Gold for Power

Krewe is social organizations responsible for parades and balls.

Why Throws?  Started in 1870 as cheap trinkets and in 1884 Rex throw the first Doubloons. Throws can be necklaces, cups, toys, moon pies or coconuts very by crews.

Mardi Gras is a Legal Holiday on in Louisiana.
